Femur. The shaft is fractured obliquely 11 cm from the distal end. Union has not occurred despite the presence of a large amount of callus (FIG. 1) at the ends of both fragments. A sequestrum is evident at the bottom of the upper fragment.
The injury was sustained at Fair Oaks on June 1, 1862. The patient was admitted to the hospital June 11, as the wound was “suppurating freely”. The patient was treated by weights and sandbags and died a few months later on September 5, probably due to sepsis.
