The 64 specimens shown and discussed in groups in this virtual exhibit represent a small part of the Maude Abbott Medical Museum’s pathology collection. Each group illustrates disease associated with a particular organ, such as the lung or heart, or a system, such as the gastrointestinal or genitourinary. Because of space limitations, not every organ – and certainly not every disease – is represented. However, the selection illustrates the wide variety of abnormalities that can affect the human body. The comments provide small snippets of scientific or historical information as background and encouragement for additional reading. All specimens shown below can be seen in person in the Museum's main display room.
