It focuses on developing oral/aural skills leading to increased communication competence and confidence in a variety of patient-nurse situations.
CEGL 410 Intensive Professional Development for ESL Teachers. (6 credits)
Intensive Professional Development for English Language Teachers (IPDELT) is a two-week, innovative, limited-enrolment, professional development course for ESL/EFL teachers whose native language is not English. Participants will consider theoretical applications, best practices and current trends in ESL/EFL instruction while engaging in stimulating collaborative pedagogical/cultural activities.

Essential business acumen required to plan and launch a new venture. The various facets of entrepreneurship dealing with idea generation, valuation techniques, funding, data sources, intellectual property, legalities and business plan development will be explored.

Identify target customers, crystalize the venture’s customer value proposition, and develop an effective sales plan. Also, “win-win” business negotiation techniques will be reviewed.
CEN2 506 Financing Startups and Ventures. (3 credits)

Selecting and securing venture financing by evaluating the different sources of equity and debt financing (including Government financial assistance programs). Capital planning, valuation and financing deal structure will also be covered.
CEN2 507 Venture Growth Strategies. (3 credits)

Practical strategies for building businesses through all the various stages will be explored. Focus will be placed on identifying potentials for growth, realizing the challenges and opportunities for growth within entrepreneurial settings, and managing growth. The course will also include a team project in which a development plan for a real or hypothetical business will be created.
CEN2 510 Practical Entrepreneurship Management. (3 credits)

This application-based course provides students with hands-on experience in planning a new venture in its entirety. Students will work in teams to develop a new start-up idea project during the term.
CENG 111 Fundamentals of Aerospace Metallic Materials. (4.5 credits)
This course will present the fundamentals of metals as a material, light metals and superalloys as they are widely used in aerospace design, as well as hot working of metals.
CENG 112 Introduction to Engineering Design Optimization. (2.4 credits)
Systems modeling and optimization: Basic modeling concepts, parametrization, data fit, design space sampling, mathematical problem formulation (linear and nonlinear), monotonicity and boundedness, constraint activity. Unconstrained optimization problems: Function approximation, optimality conditions, convexity, line search, gradient-based methods, Newton method. Constrained optimization problems: Feasibility, Lagrange multipliers, generalized reduced gradient method, Karush-KuhnTucker (KKT) conditions. Algorithms and software: Global and local convergence terminology and properties, termination criteria, scaling, commercial tools (Matlab optimization toolbox), derivative-free algorithms (search methods and genetic algorithms).
CENG 113 Dynamics of Turbomachines. (2.4 credits)
Aircraft/helicopter engines architecture (compressor, turbine, combustion chamber). General equations of motion in rotordynamics (basic assumptions and parametrization). Shaft (simplifying assumptions and rotating beams), supporting devices (journal and roller bearings). Finite element discretization, structural matrices (mass, stiffness, gyroscopic terms, damping). Modal analysis – eigenfrequencies and modes of vibration, Campbell diagrams, critical rotational velocities. Rotor imbalances, forced responses, frequency domain analysis. Bladed disk assemblies, mistuning and cyclic symmetry.
CENG 220 Industrial Process Control and Automation. (10 credits)
A comprehensive introduction to the field of instrumentation and automation, suitable for engineering and technical personnel, and for people just starting in the field. Topics covered include: automatic control; measurement and primary elements; flow measurement; final control elements; automatic control theory; analysers; computers; distributed control systems; batch control and ladder diagrams; programmable controllers; selection and specification of instrumentation; review. Optional labs will complement the learning process.
CENG 221 Project Management. (16 credits)
This course addresses the fundamental principles of project management, and the tools and techniques at our disposal to help achieve our goals. These principles, largely developed and tested on engineering projects, are being successfully applied to projects of all sizes and types within the business world. Topics covered include: project definition and start up; planning, scheduling and estimating; approval process, including testing for alternatives; project information and control systems; resource selection and allocation, implementation; post-project evaluation; project management as a career; skills and knowledge required by professionals, including decision-making and resource allocation appropriate to project phases; integration with other disciplines, including accounting and finance. Students will have the opportunity to apply the principles they learn through lab sessions using the latest computerized project management tools.
