Pianist Chris Kusuhara, a student of Kyoko Hashimoto has been awarded Second Prize and the Special Award at the National Music Festival held in Kelowna, B.C.  In 2013 he received a Developing Artist Grant from the Hnatyshyn Foundation.

Chris Howard has worked as a research analyst for Gartner since 2005, studying technology trends. Earlier in 2014, he was promoted to VP Distinguished Analyst, and continues to provide thought leadership on emerging tech and business trends. With a total of seven prizes at the SOCAN Foundations Awards to Young Composers, the Schulich School of Music Composition Area has performed remarkably.  Four out five of the 2014 SOCAN Foundation Awards for Young Composers have been awarded to current or former Schulich Students, and prize winners in the Sir Ernest MacMillan awards Category consist exclusively of former Schulich Students. Congratulations to all recipients and their respective professors.

A new approach to music theory education.  Three videos illustrate the master apprentice method of teaching the art of counterpoint with all transpositions and shortenings of cadential passages.  The videos, filmed at the Schulich School of Music, feature a spectacular four octave Italian  harpsichord that is part of the Kenneth Gilbert Harpsichord Collection.

In Oboe Secrets: 75 Performance Strategies for the Advanced Oboist and English Horn Player, Jacqueline Leclair tackles the oboe’s reputation as an especially difficult instrument and illustrates how oboists and English horn players can overcome common challenges.
