Anyone who has visited the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Montreal Children's Hospital in the past few years cannot have missed the fact that the PICU staff are always writing on the sliding glass doors. This was not vandalism! It all started as part of an innovative quality improvement project called the Glass Door project, led by Dr. Samara Zavalkoff.

Dr. Kayur Mehta's M.Sc. thesis work, "Antiviral Use in Canadian Children Hospitalized for Influenza", supervised by Dr. Jesse Papenburg, was recently聽published聽in .听Dr. Mehta was supported by an Alan Ross Academic Bursary Award from the Department of Pediatrics, and聽Dr. Papenburg was supported by a Chercheur-boursier clinicien career award from the Fonds de Recherche du Qu茅bec鈥擲ant茅.

Dr. Ana Maria Sant鈥橝nna, Associate Professor in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology & Nutrition, has been聽awarded the聽2020-2021 Paige & Bernard Kaplan Departmental Teaching Award,聽selected by the postgraduate trainees in the Department of Pediatrics. This award is given annually to a Faculty member for outstanding teaching.

Dr. Evelyn Constation Appointed Interim Program Director of the General Pediatrics Residency Program
Dr. Evelyn Constantin will be the Interim Program Director聽for the聽General Pediatrics Resident Program for one year beginning July 1, 2021.
Dr. Constantin聽is an Associate Professor in the Division of General Pediatrics聽with a particular focus and expertise in pediatric sleep medicine. She also is a noted educator and educational administrator. She has served previously as the General Pediatrics PGME PD, as well as an Assistant Dean in PGME with a particular focus on competency by design. She is a member of the Faculty Honour Roll for Educational Excellence.

Congratulations to Dr. Samara Zavalkoff on receiving as co-laureate the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences鈥� 2021 Maude Abbott Prize.
The Maude Abbott Prize this year was awarded based upon the criteria of administrative excellence, for a female faculty member who is between 2 and 10 years of having been appointed within their respective Department. The prize is named in honor of the Faculty鈥檚 first female member who was a pioneer in describing and categorizing congenital heart disease.

Dr. Nada Jabado, Professor in the Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, is the recipient of the from the Canadian Cancer Society for discovering that brain tumours in children are fundamentally distinct from the same tumours found in adults and that nearly half of pediatric glioblastomas, an aggressive type of brain tumour, are caused by mutations in genes that affect how DNA is structured and organized.

Dr. Christine McCusker Awarded 2020 Transition to Clinical Practice Award for Excellence in Teaching
Congratulations to Dr. Christine McCusker, Division of Allergy, Immunology and Dermatology,聽on receiving the 2020 Transition to Clinical Practice Award for Excellence in Teaching for Pediatrics,聽decided upon by聽MDCM students.
Transition to Clinical Practice is a unique six-month component during the four-year medical curriculum when students are given the opportunity to apply the knowledge learned in their first 18 months, to practice their skills, and to learn key aspects of various disciplines, without being responsible for patient care.
