Maria Ezcurra, Artist-in-Residence with the Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE), invites faculty and students to weekly art workshops each Wednesday.

Faculty and students are invited to the library space on the 1st floor, between 10 am and 3 pm, to develop art projects. Art materials will be provided. Participants are encouraged to donate a piece of unused clothing for a series of textile portraits.

Montreal's OBORO gallery presents Anne Ashton's 罢颈产耻谤贸苍 from September 12, 2015 until October 17. Anne Ashton currently teaches painting with the Faculty of Education.

The 罢颈产耻谤贸苍 installation "deals with the great white shark," reveals OBORO's promotion for the exhibit, "in danger of extinction due to human impact. The artist's intention is not to romanticize or demonize this animal, but rather to emphasize the uniqueness, as well as the primeval and mystifying beauty of this rare species..."

During the month of September 缅北强奸 will host the 14th Annual Pow-Wow (September 18) and the 5th annual Indigenous Awareness Week (September 21-25). 缅北强奸鈥檚 Indigenous Awareness Week is designed to increase awareness at 缅北强奸 about Indigenous peoples in Canada. The week honours the many Indigenous cultures across the country including First Nations, M茅tis and Inuit.

Congratulations to 缅北强奸 Department of Integrated Studies in Education PhD student Am茅lie Lemieux on being awarded a prestigious Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Joseph-Armand Bombardier CGS Doctoral Fellowship.

Am茅lie鈥檚 research explores the ways in which high school students鈥 reading practices evolve through an investigation of arts-related meaning making strategies.

On October 28th, 2014, First Peoples' House held a celebration to honor the Fall Graduates.聽 It was a Scarf Ceremony followed by a dinner.聽 It was held at the 缅北强奸 Faculty Club.聽 Jim Howden, the Director, and Tina Schiavone, one of the Student Advisors attended.聽 It is always a special occasion sharing this moment with the graduates, members of their community as well as their partners and families.

Miranda Campbell, DISE PhD 2010 graduate and now professor of English at Dawson College has been short-listed for the prestigious 16th Annual Donner Prize. Her book "Out of the Basement: Youth Cultural Production in Practice and in Policy is one of five books vying for the 2013/2014 Donner Prize, the award for the best public policy book by a Canadian. Dr. Campbell's book was based on her dissertation which was supervised by Dr. Bronwen Low.

The Department is excited to welcome Dr. Lisa Starr to 缅北强奸. Dr. Starr moved to DISE from the University of Victoria, and is going to be strongly focused on teacher education. She is experienced in this area and completed her PhD on the topic, so will be well-placed to help us think about how to evolve our programs.聽

Congratulations to Faculty of Education undergraduate student Jennifer Looi for her outstanding achievement in the Teacher Education category at The Undergraduate Awards 2013 Global Summit. Jennifer, who is in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE), was invited to Dublin earlier this month to accept her award, and meet similarly accomplished students from around the world to exchange ideas.
