Interprofessional Health Care Education

Interprofessional education (IPE)听 is the active participation of different health care professionals learning with, from and about each other to improve health outcomes.

The mission of the听Office of Interprofessional Education, Faculty of Medicine, is to advance the knowledge, skills and attitudes of students in the health professions to inspire excellence in interprofessional patient and family centered collaborative practice by optimizing active learning opportunities through an educational culture promoting:

  • Interprofessional Education curriculum based on the Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative (CIHC, 2010) core competency framework
  • Faculty Development initiatives that promote IPE skills and scholarship
  • Leadership and scholarship in innovative IPE pedagogy

Students may access the courses in the OT curriculum and PT curriculum.

Meet two of the core members听of the Office of Interprofessional Education, representing the听Physical and Occupational Therapy听professional programs:


Dr.Liliane Asseraf-Pasin's听professional interests include the development of听cultural competence, the mentorship of听novice professionals and of interprofessional education and practice. She is interested in the development of the听Interprofessional Education (IPE) curricula, and as such, she has been closely involved in initiating National and International IPE projects at the University of Genoa and the University of Trento in Italy.


Cynthia Perlman's research interests focus on curriculum and instructional design, including the development, implementation,听evaluation and sustainability听of an interprofessional education curriculum in health professional education. Additional interests include the assessment of student learning comprising the influence of formative evaluation.
