What is Shinrin Yoku?
Shinrin Yoku (Forest Bathing) is a very slow, guided walk done in a small group, where we immerse ourselves in nature. Done mainly in silence, this walk covers a short distance over a few hours, giving us the opportunity to slow down and reconnect with our senses and nature through guided invitations (activities). It often brings a feeling of relaxation and wellbeing.
Although we do most of the walk in silence, there will be moments to share your experience with others in pairs or small groups. We will end with a “tea ceremony“ – a herbal tea infusion and a light snack – to celebrate and share our experiences together.
What should I wear and bring?
- This year we are seeing a lot more ticks. Please apply these tick prevention strategies for every Forest Bathing walk.Ìý
- Dress for the weather and for ticks, including long pants and a long-sleeved shirt or jacket. We will be moving very slowly so dress warmly if it is cool or cold.
- Good shoes/boots for walking on dirt paths that may be slippery or muddy some days – slightly uphill and downhill. Consult the site's trail conditions on their website for guidance.
- A water bottle, bug spray (for mosquitoes and ticks), walking poles if you need them and a small waterproof mat or folding tripod stool if you have one so that you can sit at different moments. We will also have small mats to share with you if needed.
- We invite you to use unscented products so that you can benefit from the fragrances nature has to offer that day.
- If you are coming with another participant, we encourage you to carpool whenever possible.
And, of course, we invite you to bring your openness to discover, explore and connect with nature!
