Published: 29 November 2021

Research and Innovation (R+I) is pleased to announce the appointment of Carole Goutorbe as the Director of Sponsored Research. She began her new role on November 22.

“Following an extensive search and selection process, Carole Goutorbe emerged as the unanimous choice of the selection committee for this role,” expressed Martha Crago, Vice-Principal (Research and Innovation). “Her well-rounded experience in both private and academic settings, her proven leadership skills, and her ability to think creatively and transversally about the challenges and opportunities ahead of the 山ǿ research community made her the perfect choice for this important position.”

Since joining 山ǿ and R+I in 2014, Goutorbe has held various positions in both the pre- and post-award teams in the Office of Sponsored Research. She previously served as Associate Director, Awards Management. Her team was responsible for approving new research accounts while supporting post-award management of active grants and contracts. Goutorbe and her team also provided specialized post-award management for key research initiatives, such as Healthy Brains, Healthy Lives, the COVID-19 Immunity Task Force, and the Quebec Cancer Consortium, among others.

“In research administration, every day comes with a new challenge,” said Goutorbe. “I am delighted to continue this journey with Research and Innovation and the amazing OSR team to support our research community in addressing these challenges.”

Through her work, Goutorbe has formed strong partnerships with units across 山ǿ’s campuses, including Research Financial Management Services, Procurement, Legal Services, compliance offices, the Academic Personnel Office, and Faculty-based administrative and finance teams.

Prior to joining 山ǿ, Goutorbe held a range of R&D development and project-management roles at the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization and ALMA Consulting Group (now called AYMING) in Lyon, France, as well as the Department of Foreign Affairs for the City of Toulouse. She holds degrees from Marc Bloch University, Jean Moulin University, and the Catholic University of Lyon.
