While terrorism or radicalization directly affect only a small number of people, their impact and consequences are widespread. They create fear and threaten peace and security of a community and country. Canada is not an exception. As educators ourselves, we plan to work in conjunction with other Canadian educators to help students relate global affairs to their lives. With news of terrible terrorism incidences it is important to talk with our students about what they may be seeing and hearing. How are students thinking and talking about their communities? How do they link issues of the past and present to the choices they will make in the future? Our ultimate aim is to understand and prepare students so they can take part in creating a culture of preventing violence and promoting peace.
