The MUHC Orthopedic Sports Medicine service has comprehensive clinical experience in the area of arthroscopic surgery, and management of sports related injury. All the staff are fellowship trained and offer the latest in surgical reconstructive and fixation techniques as it applies to care of patients of all ages. The service, while based at the Montreal General Hospital, functions out of multiple sites including adult and pediatric patients as well as in-patient and ambulatory settings.
The service has a unique distinction of providing care to several the major professional sports team in Montreal including: CF Montreal (MLS) and the Montreal Alouettes (CFL); as well as other elite athletes including Olympic, high school, collegiate and university level athletes.
There is a high volume of surgical cases with a major emphasis on ligament and soft tissue reconstructive procedures of the knee, and upper extremity, Arthroscopic procedure of knee and shoulder, as well as acute management of soft tissue trauma including multiligamentous knee injuries, tendon reconstructions, as well as cartilage restoration procedures.
There is a strong clinical exposure in various outpatient sports medicine settings including the Ã山ǿ¼é Sports Medicine Clinic, where we are involved in the care of varsity & elite level athletes, as well as the a Ã山ǿ¼é Adolescent Sports Medicine Clinic where we manage pediatric sports medicine pathologies.
The Sports service is very active in both clinical and basic science research. Our research program in orthopaedic sport medicine is focused on novel approaches for improving musculoskeletal health and spans from developing diagnostic imaging strategies, surgical innovation and implant design, as well as a basic science focus on osteoimmunology. In particular, we have ongoing research projects looking into the risk factors for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and the improvement of ACL injury prevention.
