Visual Electrophysiology Laboratory and Clinic

This laboratory, under the direction of聽 Dr. Pierre Lachapelle, PhD, is interested in the functional assessment of vision from the retina to the visual cortex in the normal and diseased human subjects (newborn to elderly) as well as in the development of animal models of human retinal disorders.

Investigative techniques include: electroretinography (flash and multifocal), Visual Evoked Potential (VEP), histology (light and electron), immunohistochemistry, mathematical analysis of biopotentials (FFT, Wavelet transform, etc.), molecular biology, etc.聽聽Most recent findings: retinal vasculature and function can predict imminence of coronary heart disease; first documented case of end stage聽Retinitis Pigmentosa聽(RP) that started with a normal retina more than 30 years ago.
