Supporting Research at the SCSIL

The SCSIL is a world-class environment to conduct health sciences simulation research and we want to support high-quality research!

We can provide researchers with:

  • access to simulators and other simulation educational materials
  • access to simulation technicians and educators
  • access to educational technology resources and specialists via the Office of Ed-TECH (e.g., recording studio, artists, animators, instructional designers, and script writers)
  • space to conduct research studies
  • audio-video recording and support
  • an Oculus VR headset
  • shared quiet office space
  • access to students and fellows (if connected to a course)
  • assistance connecting with simulation educators

Research projects that are (a) supported by the Director of Education, Dr. Jeffrey Wiseman,听or (b) connected to ongoing initiatives, including simulation education courses, will not be asked to provide financial support to conduct research at the SCSIL.

Research projects that don鈥檛 meet the criteria of (a) or (b) are subject to discussion in terms of whether they can be supported without financial support from the principal investigator to the SCSIL to cover potential additional costs (e.g., extra consumables, staff overtime/off-hours work). Discussion will include: (1) whether the research project takes place during regular staff hours, (2) whether disposable research materials and/or cadavers are needed, and (3) the type and quantity of staff support required.

To best assess your needs and support your research, the Director of Research may request a meeting after reviewing your description of the research project, proposed timeline, and resources needed from the SCSIL (see Conducting Research at the SCSIL), particularly if your research doesn鈥檛 currently align with (a) or (b).
