Integrated Facility for Research on Large Animals

Funded by聽The Government of Canada through the Canada Foundation for Innovation, this facility is dedicated to improving the lives and health of large animals that have been crucial to human society by providing service, companionship, and food.

Led by聽Professors Vilceu Bordignon of the Department of Animal Science and Luis B Agellon, of the Department of School of Human Nutrition, the goal is to facilitate the establishment, development, and dissemination of tools and expertise needed for the creation and propagation of conventional and novel large animal strains for use in the agricultural and biomedical sectors.

The facility includes a large operating room for animals, a diagnostic and imaging center, storage for samples, materials, and chemicals, a system for handling gametes (sperm and eggs) and embryos, as well as labs for studying genomes, proteins, cells, and embryo growth.
