René Provost and Fabien Gélinas promoted to Full Professors
The Faculty is proud to announce that Professors René Provost (left, top) and Fabien Gélinas (left, bottom) were each promoted to the rank of Full Professor on April 30, 2015.
In sharing the news with the community, Dean Daniel Jutras underscored how “This is a well-deserved recognition for both. Over the years, Fabien and René have each forged a formidable reputation as researchers, teachers, and graduate student mentors. They both have in many ways demonstrated an unwavering loyalty to the Faculty, as Associate Deans, as Director, and in other ways. But what is most striking in their careers is their respective capacity to draw up institutional projects through team work, building on an undeniable talent for bringing people together.”
Professor Fabien Gélinas teaches and conducts research in the areas of international dispute resolution, contract law and legal theory. Formerly General Counsel of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce, he is a member of the Quebec Bar and acts as arbitrator and as consultant on dispute resolution and legal reform. In April 2013, he was appointed a Norton Rose Faculty Scholar in Arbitration and Commercial Law. In November 2014, he was elected president of the Arbitration Committee of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. Formerly Associate Dean of Law and Director of the Institute of Comparative Law at 山ǿ, he now heads the Private Justice and the Rule of Law Research Team.
Professor René Provost teaches and conducts research in public international law, international human rights law, international humanitarian law, legal theory and legal anthropology. He is particularly interested in human rights, international criminal law, the law of armed conflict, and the intersection of law and culture. Professor Provost seeks to apply to international law the insights of legal pluralism, with particular attention to the normative implications of this perspective for non-state actors.
The Faculty congratulates René Provost and Fabien Gélinas for this well-deserved promotion.
