Established in 1999 through a substantial contribution by Nortel Networks Corporation on the retirement of Clive V. Pilarczyk Research Initiative in Legal Methodology
All students in the Master鈥檚 program are enrolled in a common course: Legal Research & Methodology (CMPL 610). The purpose of the course is to prepare and accompany the graduate students on their major research endeavor which forms a central part of the graduate program.听 The coordinator or this program shall hold the Research Initiative position, and shall be known as the Pilarczyk Fellow. Under the supervision and with the collaboration of the professor responsible for this course (usually the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies), the Pilarczyk Fellow prepares and develops the course outline, syllabus and materials. The Pilarczyk Fellow meets all students on a weekly basis in class and also arranges individual sessions with students to provide feedback and answer questions. See also Teaching Fellowship.

Teaching Fellowship
Under the supervision and with the collaboration of a professor, who remains responsible for a given course, the Teaching Fellow contributes significantly to the course design, instruction and evaluation.听 Designed to give DCL students in-depth teaching experience, the Fellow will take a leadership role in: designing a course plan or syllabus; selecting course readings and learning materials; developing class plans and classroom activities/learning exercises; imagining possibilities for effectively integrating technology in the classroom for the course concerned; conceiving of methods of evaluation; engaging in student evaluation and feedback; holding office hours and meetings with students.
