CHIARI MALÂFORÂMAÂTION: An abnorÂmalÂity of the back of the brain. Also known as Arnold Chiari malÂforÂmaÂtion, this is an uncomÂmon conÂgenÂiÂtal anomÂaly (occurence at birth) in which two parts of the brain, the brainÂstem and the creÂbelÂlum, are longer than norÂmal and proÂtrude down into the spinal canal causÂing tisÂsue comÂpresÂsion and hinÂderÂing norÂmal spinal fluid flow.
