Envisioning Inclusion: Transforming Disability Knowledge, Research and Activism is a publication of the culmination of work done under the collaborative effort of Transforming Disability Knowledge, Research and Activism project and the IHDW.
is a collaborative project funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) over four years, from 2016 until 2020. This project focuses on engaging women and girls with disabilities in three disadvantaged communities in Hanoi, Thua Thien Hue, and Can Tho, Vietnam in participatory research as a way of building local knowledge and developing activism in support of their inclusion. We provide opportunities for graduate students, academics, and activists in Canada to engage in transnational work for social justice with disabled girls and women in the global South.
Through a series of workshops extending over the life cycle of the project, the girls in conjunction with the IHDW have self-produced a film titled "Our Journey" in addition to the publication. Our Journey is a documentary film figuring the collective voice of girls and women with disabilities in Vietnam, who engage in the Transforming Disability Knowledge, Research, and Activism (TDKRA) project. They tell stories drawn on their past and present experiences with disability, their journey against institutional racism, ableism, gender inequality, and their desire and actions to foster positive social change in the global South.
