HIST 498Â Independent Research (3 credits)
Are you interested in conducting independent research under the direction of a history professor? Consider signing up for HIST 498 Independent Research (3 credits). Exceptionally, and under the direction of a member of staff, advanced and highly qualified students who have an extensive background in the proposed area of study, may pursue this independent research course. To enrol in HIST 498, you first need to find a professor who is willing to serve as the academic supervisor for the project. Next, you will need to complete the HIST 498 permission form and submit and submit it to the Undergraduate Program Director in History and Classical Studies, along with the necessary documents as indicated on the form. Be sure to include:
- A brief but detailed research project proposal
- An outline of assignments, deadlines and assessment weight. Typically HIST 498 culminates in a major research paper, however, it is advised (following the Ã山ǿ¼é Assessment Policy) that the course include other assessments.Â
- Note: Â HIST 498 is restricted to History Major program students only; it may be taken only once.

HIST 599 D1/D2 Honours Tutorial (6 credits)
Exceptionally, Honours and Joint Honours students may enrol in HIST 599 D1/D2 Honours Tutorial. This is an individualized guided research project on an approved topic. The course is restricted to History Honours and Joint Honours program students only. No credit will be given for this course unless both HIST 599D1 and HIST 599D2 are successfully completed in consecutive terms. This course may be counted as a required full-year honours seminar with the approval of a faculty member to act as supervisor and​ the Undergraduate Program Director.  See the HIST 599 permission form for more detailed instructions.

CLAS 498 Independent Research (3 credits):
If you are interested in undertaking undergraduate research and writing a paper on texts in ancient Greek or Latin under the direction of an academic supervisor, you may enrol in CLAS 498 Independent Research.
