LEVEL 300 COURSES

FRSL 332 INTERMEDIATE FRENCH: GRAMMAR

3 credits. Fall. 3 hours. Prerequisite: Placement test. For those who have attained relative fluency but lack accuracy in speaking and writing. Grammar review, using both a theoretical and a practical approach. Reading materials, in addition to their cultural interest, are selected to illustrate grammatical usage, provide models of writing techniques and aid in vocabulary development

FRSL 333 INTERMEDIATE FRENCH: GRAMMAR

3 credits. Winter. 3 hours. Prerequisite: FRSL 332 or placement test. Second part of FRSL 332.

LEVEL 400 COURSES

FRSL 445 FRAN脟AIS FONCTIONNEL, 脡CRIT 1

3 credits. Fall. 3 hours. Prerequisite: Placement test. For students who have reached a functional level in oral French but who have difficulty in writing with accuracy. Regular written assignments, critical thinking, critical analysis of texts, practical exercises in coherent organization and argumentation. In-class tests. Exercises designed to improve writing, grammar, spelling, avoid interference from English (anglicisms and false cognates) and enrich vocabulary.

FRSL 446 FRAN脟AIS FONCTIONNEL, 脡CRIT 2

3 credits. Winter. 3 hours. Prerequisite: Placement test. Prepares students for courses requiring a highly advanced level of competency in written French, particularly for courses offered by the Department of French Language and Literature. Same format as FRSL 445, but with additional work on letter writing, summarizing, and paraphrasing; also a focus on sophisticated vocabulary and style, and developing the ability to identify and use different registers of language.

FRSL 455 GRAMMAIRE ET CR脡ATION

3 credits. 3 hours. Prerequisite: Placement test. An analytical perspective and inductive and visual approach are combined to help students master the grammatical code. Advanced level texts are studied, illustrating the rich lexical and stylistic resources of French and introducing non-francophone students to the world of literary creation.
