2017 缅北强奸 Fellows

The Internship Offices Network and the Coady Institute are pleased to announce the selected 缅北强奸 students for the 2017-2018 OceanPath Fellowship. Learn more about their projects below.

Simone Cavanaugh, BCL/LLB International Human Rights and Development

In an effort to dispel myths about disability and focus on capacities, to enhance understanding of the local legal and human rights framework, and to introduce and provide opportunities to practice concrete advocacy skills, I plan to conduct a series of advocacy workshops for families of children with disabilities in rural Nicaraguan communities. Families who participate in these workshops will then be equipped to facilitate them in their own communities

鈥淚 love that fellowship provides support for Fellows to facilitate concrete positive chance in communities that matter to us. Especially in this pivotal time after graduation, I hope to grow and learn for a better tomorrow鈥.

Gabriela Kassel Gomez, MA Educational Psychology

Through articulation of our story we gain ownership of identity and strength of self. Fueled by this principle, this initiative seeks to help young transgender and gender nonconforming (TGNC) youth harness the power of their own stories through art-based workshops. The workshops will be run by other TGNC artists and community leaders, helping youth solidify community connections and envision brighter futures.

鈥淚 hope to create spaces where empowered youth can explore identity, gender and intersectional experiences while learning from their challenges and triumphs, and at the same time expanding my own imaginings of an open-gendered world鈥.

Anthony Sardain, MA Statistical Modelling and Biology

I will be working with the indigenous Embera of Piriati in eastern Panama to facilitate the design of a strategy to reforest the community鈥檚 degraded communal lands. In addition to facilitating the planning process, I will be assisting the community in articulating a formal demand for its financing through a carbon fund.

鈥淚 look forward to the challenge and opportunity to further develop the skills, knowledge and perspective I need to carry me forward and become the best version of myself鈥.
