In a session titled "Gender-based violence within educational spaces: Policy, practice and lived experiences of students", Professor Shariff will serve as the discussant and share her expertise.听The session will contributes to existing scholarship on gender-based violence in two crucial ways. First, it investigates the structural and cultural features of institutions and societies that sustain gender-based violence. Second, by bringing together empirical data on gender-based violence from three different continents (Africa, Asia, and Europe), this panel will provide an opportunity for a critical exploration of the causes of gender-based violence as well as how manifestations of gender-based violence are sustained by culturally specific notions linked to masculinity/femininities, ageism, casteism, etc.听

Shannon Hutcheson will present her research in a session titled "Overlooked Discourses on Intersections of Race and International Student Status: Best Practices for Researchers".听Using critical frameworks, including critical discourse analysis which considers the role of inequality and privilege in research and experience, Shannon will offer some best practices for researchers and stakeholders in international education. Overall,听Shannon argues that, going forward, we must prioritize critical discussions of race in our research.听
