Enhancement of fruits and their co-products through the development of high value-added active supplements for animal and human nutrition
The objective of this co-creation network is to design different ecologically responsible approaches and processes for the development of high value-added supplements, intended for animal and human feed, from fruits and fruit co-products. This project also aims to evaluate the impact of these supplements on the positive modulation of the human and animal intestinal microbiota and their beneficial effects on the health and well-being of the host.
The activities will allow participating companies to increase the market value of their by-products while reducing their environmental footprint in a circular economy. An integrated approach will allow for a strong and complementary network between companies producing co-products and those that can make the most of them.
Research Activities
A. Physico-chemical and functional characterization of the various fruit co-products and their bioactive compounds
B. Development of eco-responsible extraction, concentration and bio-conservation approaches for targeted enrichment of active compounds
C. Implementation and characterization of technological processes for the conditioning and stabilization of supplements enriched with bioactive compounds
D. Study of digestibility, bioavailability and impact on the composition, dynamics and metabolic activity of the colic microbiota of supplements enriched with bioactive compounds. In vivo validation of health effects using animal models
E. Technical and economic study and evaluation of the potential for application of ingredients in humans and animals
