Research Interests
Our research is focused on the design of new functional materials through a combination of high-throughput synthesis along with more traditional solid-state chemistry approaches. Of immediate interest are novel materials for a wide variety of battery technologies including electrodes materials for Li- and Na-ion batteries as well as solid electrolytes for all-solid-batteries. Such research is of highest priority for immediate societal needs including the widespread implementation of electric vehicles as well as grid storage given that the use of intermittent renewal energy sources drives the need for better batteries. Our battery research is done in collaboration with industrial leaders in rechargeable batteries.
The group uses a combination of high-throughput synthesis/characterization that allows for the study of thousands of samples each year, and more detailed studies on key compositions using traditional approaches.
Through various collaborations, the group is also actively working on applying our methods to varied Chemistries including the electrosynthesis of organic compounds, the study of bipolar semiconductors and the use of metallic iron as a renewable fuel source. The group is also involved in collaborations further leveraging our high-throughput methods with various machine learning approaches.
