AVADE® Self-defense Training (SAF 102)

Basic self-defense training for all staff and students at Ã山ǿ¼é. The full one day training will cover the basics of controlling an escalated situation, increase situational awareness and offer practical skills and techniques for self-defense.

  • The course costs $50 with payment by cash only at our office (Burnside Hall room 102).
  • No food or beverages supplied. It is recommended to bring snacks etc.
  • Wear comfortable clothing and footwear appropriate for physical activity.

Active Threat Training Workshop (Virtual) (SAF 101)

This workshop is designed to empower individuals with tools to recognize and survive an active threat situation.

  • The course is only offered online and lasts one hour.
  • It is free for students, faculty and staff members of Ã山ǿ¼é.

De-escalating Potentially Violent Situationsâ„¢ (Staff only) (Virtual) (SAF 100)

This half-day (online only) workshop for staff is designed to teach people to de-escalate potentially violent situations through assertiveness and interpersonal communication. The training will explore how anger and violence interplay, including opportunities for self-assessment of personal styles. Participants will develop a clear understanding of how to assess the potential for violence and respond with a diverse set of interpersonal tools and strategies designed to defuse potentially violent situations.

  • You will be required to provide a foapal for this training.
  • The workshop costs $25 per person. 
    • The fee includes the cost of the participant manual.
  • You do not need to be approved by your supervisor to attend this workshop.
  • If you cannot attend the workshop and to avoid being charged the course fee, you will need to cancel 48 hours in advance.

Area Access Manager Training

An Area Access Manager (AAM) is a designated person within a department or faculty responsible for managing its card reader(s) by assigning and removing cardholder access to their areas and establishing and modifying card reader settings.

  • Training material will be provided by Physical Security Systems (Security) once approval is received from your manager.
