The 18-credit Graduate Certificate in Professional Communication 鈥� Spanish provides students with the tools for more effective intercultural or international professional communication in a variety of occupational domains. It is intended to perfect students' linguistic competence in Spanish in communication specific areas and create a deeper understanding of linguistic and cultural diversity. The program provides an effective way of attaining an advanced superior level of proficiency (C1+C2) in Spanish for specific purposes, thus endowing students with the necessary savoir-faire for professional communication.
Note: All students must successfully pass the Entrance Examination. Otherwise they may be advised to take a qualifying course or program.

CSPN 541 Language and Culture for Professional Communication (3 credits)
Overview
Spanish (CCE) : Concentrates on spoken Spanish for special purposes in social settings (e.g. tourism/banking/hotel) through rigorous practical exercises. Accurate interpretation and production of oral tracts routinely exchanged in social communication contexts. The course provides students with near-native control of the language system preparing them to meet most business and social demands.

CSPN 542 Written Communication Contexts (3 credits)
Overview
Spanish (CCE) : Study of the specific lexicons and effective writing strategies for special purposes (e.g. business, health care and social services). Analysis of writing problems. Systematic approach to planning, writing and revising texts routinely exchanged in professional communication in these contexts. Focus on clarity, conciseness, appropriate tone, protocol and purpose.

Overview
Spanish (CCE) : Study of discourse used in simulated real-life situations. Analysis of the situational development to consolidate the linguistic accuracy and communicative proficiency acquired in earlier courses. Presentation of documented descriptions of procedures as final class project that may serve for future reference.

CCTR 522 Advanced Pr茅cis - Writing (Spanish) (3 credits)
Overview
Translation : The emphasis of this course will be on the understanding and in-depth analysis of a variety of texts of various areas in order to determine which are the essential elements needed in pr茅cis-writing. The exercises, which will be of a very practical nature, will include the summarizing of reports, minutes and abstracts. Students will learn to summarize texts accurately and concisely in a way that respects the form and rhetoric of the original text and exploits its idiomatic nature. Objectives: The student will perfect skills in analytical reading of texts for contents and structure skills in rendering the texts in a condensed form the capacity to synthesize./ Ce cours met l'accent sur la compr茅hension et l'analyse de textes de diff茅rents domaines pour en d茅gager les 茅l茅ments essentiels n茅cessaires 脿 la r茅daction d'un r茅sum茅. Les exercices de nature tr猫s pratique consistent notamment 脿 faire la contraction de rapports, de comptes rendus et de r茅sum茅s. CCTR 523 Text Revision in Spanish/R茅vision de textes en Espagnol (3 credits)
Overview
Translation : This course is designed to perfect the students' knowledge of the principles of evaluating and correcting texts written in Spanish and translated into English or French. Proofreading techniques and editorial practices will be studied and practiced. The relation between the translating and revising of a text will also be studied. Work will also be done using texts translated from English or French into Spanish when appropriate. Objectives: To make students fully aware of the fact that for good text revision one must take into consideration not only correct spelling and grammar, but also the message, style and targeted readers of the original text. / Ce cours doit permettre 脿 l'茅tudiant de mieux se familiariser avec les principes de l'茅valuation et de la correction de traductions en anglais ou en fran莽ais de textes espagnols. Les techniques de correction d'茅preuve et de r茅daction y sont abord茅es et mises en pratique. On y traite 茅galement des rapports entre la traduction et la r茅vision. CCTR 524 Differential History of Spanish (3 credits)
Overview
Translation : Following a general introduction to the evolution of the Spanish language from the Medieval period, through the Golden Age to Modern Spanish, the main focus of this course will be on the geographical diversity of the Spanish language. Usage in Spain will be contrasted with the forms used in the different parts of Latin America. Students will also analyze the cultural context of the language in a variety of texts. / Apr猫s une introduction g茅n茅rale retra莽ant l'茅volution de l'espagnol (le Moyen 脗ge, l'芒ge d'or et l'茅poque actuelle), le cours porte principalement sur la diversit茅 g茅ographique de l'espagnol. CSPN 540 Organizational Culture in the Hispanic World (3 credits)
Overview
Spanish (CCE) : Designed to give students insight into the various forms of organizational behaviour in the Hispanic world and provide its historic background. The implications of the essential concepts of social psychology such as motivation, perception and attitude change will be discussed. Classroom discussions and student participation are essential.
