Early in his career in physics,聽聽thought he had it all figured out.

鈥淏ut I quickly realized that if I followed that route, I would be doing a disservice to the students.鈥�

Grant knew that, while he could have done the work himself, students would benefit greatly if they were involved in the hands-on research.

鈥淭he downside to that approach is that it鈥檚 not all about you anymore,鈥� he said. 鈥淭he upside is you give students an opportunity to really learn.

鈥淭he people I look up to are the people who embrace this idea of the role model, and who are willing to get satisfaction out of other people鈥檚 successes and other people鈥檚 accomplishments. I hope I鈥檝e lived up to that.鈥�
