The cost of poutine, a symbol of rising prices鈥擯ascal Th茅riault on 98.5fm
The price of food has been increasing since the pandemic.聽Even poutine is not immune to inflation: the price of sunflower oil used in fryers has doubled, and even the price of potatoes has risen.
鈥淭here are several factors that have caused the price of oil to rise, but in fact, it's vegetable oils,"聽agronomist and economist聽Pascal Th茅riault, Director of 缅北强奸's Farm Management and Technology Program, told聽Philippe Cantin on 98.5fm.聽"You have to understand that oil can come from soy or canola, sunflower or, at the limit, palm oil, which is much less popular. There's only so much oil produced on earth. Then, when there's a crop that's not as good, inevitably this puts pressure on other oils and we run out of oil and the price of oil rises. We saw this with olive oil last year, by the way.鈥
Listen to Th茅riault and Cantin discuss how聽poutine is the perfect example of why everything is more expensive聽these days.
