Priorities

The Thinking Ahead Campaign is a window to a brighter future for those living with neurological problems. By giving to the campaign, you will stand shoulder to shoulder with the unrivaled talent at the MNI as we integrate the best brain research with the most advanced and compassionate care.

The priorities for the campaign are

North Wing Expansion

Big ideas don’t fit in small spaces – and the Thinking Ahead Campaign would be impossible without our new pavilion. Increased capacity is central to our priorities. Our state-of-the-art Brain Imaging Centre will be at the heart of the new wing, redoubling our contributions to understanding brain disease, addiction and treatment. Our Experimental Therapeutics Program will test novel treatments in experimental models of neurological diseases and speed the transition of new therapies from the laboratory to patient care. Ìý.

NeuroEngineering

A growing team of neurobiologists, chemists, physicists and computer engineers are doing cutting-edge research on brain–machine interfaces and unleashing the vast potential of nano-science to repair the damaged nervous system. This work holds the promise of better outcomes for patients limited by spinal cord injury, stroke, trauma or amputation.

NeuroPalliative Care

The first NeuroPalliative Care program in North America will serve patients who are suffering with terminal illnesses of the nervous system. Through this clinical and research initiative, we will develop and deliver supportive care for patients at the end of life, and help those who love them. MNI professionals will establish the best practices in palliative care, and train other caregivers.

Spine and Spinal Cord Repair

Back and spinal cord injuries can have serious complications if nerve tissue is damaged. A dedicated staff of surgeons and researchers from the MNI and other centres will seek advances in treatment for patients suffering from disabling abnormalities and injuries of the back and spinal cord.

The Next Generation of Experts

The MNI’s life-giving ambitions can only be realized with the best physicians and researchers. With campaign funds, we will invest in the up-and-coming generation of brain science visionaries and give them the tools to move their science forward in record time.

Clinical and Research Fellows

Newly trained MDs and PhDs come to the MNI for the unique opportunity to build expertise. Support for their work is key to shaping the future of patient care and to making scientific advances.

Innovative Programs

Neuroscience is picking up speed – and support for Innovative Programs guarantees us the flexibility to be there with solutions when new questions emerge. Ambitious pilot projects make tomorrow’s headlines. High-risk, high-return research can only be seized by an organization that expects the unexpected.

Your campaign donation is important. Make a difference, support the MNI!
