Open Science in Conversation: Follow the Money - Funding Open, Diverse, Inclusive and Equitable Science

Wednesday, March 30, 2022 11:00to12:00
Montreal Neurological Institute 3801 University, 3801 rue University, Montreal, QC, H3A 2B4, CA

Scientists are increasingly being told by funders, through mandates and policies, that their research should be more open and equitably inclusive of diverse perspectives.

Bringing diverse perspectives to bear on scientific questions and openly sharing results to allow wider scrutiny and reuse only makes science better. However, too often mandates neglect one crucial question: how?

In this webinar we talk to representatives from two funding organizations who are going beyond mandates to actively provide guidance and funding specifically targeted at creating research contexts within which science and society can thrive.

Speakers:

Eunice Mercado-Lara - Civic Science Fellow, Open and Equitable Model Funding Program, Open Research Funders Group

Eunice Mercado-Lara is a Civic Science Fellow and Program Coordinator of the Open and Equitable Model Funding Program currently being designed by the Open Funders Research Group, a partnership of funders with a collective funding envelope of $12 billion.

Kate Hertweck - Open Science Program Manager, Chan Zuckerberg Initiative

Kate Hertweck is an Open Science Program Manager with the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, which has been supporting tools that underlie Open Science through its Essential Open Source Software for Science funding program. Now it is taking the next step to make sure those tools are designed by teams reflecting the diversity of those who use them.
