Current research:

The aim of my research and thesis is to gain a better understanding of the rhetorical elements used in five of Mendelssohn鈥檚 choral-orchestral masterworks (St. Paul Op.36 / Symphony No. 2 Op.52 鈥淟obgesang鈥 / Die erste Walpurgisnacht Op.60 / Elijah Op.70 / Christus Op. 97) and to garner a renewed interest in the performance practice needed to successfully render these works. While scholars have somewhat touched the presence of seventeenth-century musical forms and idioms in individual works by Mendelssohn, there has been no attempt to place the rhetorical gestures devices of the Musica Poetica specifically within the context of a larger body of works by the composer.
