Schulich's Brazilian Jazz Workshop Unites the Montreal Music Community
Every week, the Schulich School of Music sees musicians from all over Montreal聽come together to learn about the music of Brazil. In a ten-week free workshop directed by guitarist Rodrigo Sim玫es (through support of Schulich's聽Jazz Performance and Music Education areas), a group of over 20 participants has the chance to learn the ins-and-outs of聽samba, Baia玫 and聽maxixe on their main instruments, as well as perform supporting roles on a variety of percussion instruments.
The diverse group of attendees includes both students and faculty members from聽缅北强奸聽University, Universit茅 de Montr茅al, Concordia University,聽Vanier College, CEGEP St. Laurent, la Conservatoire de Montr茅al and聽local high schools. The workshop is taught in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese, and also acts as a place where聽Brazilians can聽proudly share their culture as they meet and interact with聽Canadian musicians.聽
Montreal audiences can hear this group in action in a public concert in April (further information to follow).
