Alumn Eric Abramovitz appointed associate principal clarinet of Toronto Symphony Orchestra
Congratulations to Eric Abramovitz (B.Mus 2016), who was recently appointed as the associate principal/Eb clarinet of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO). We spoke to him in a recent email exchange about how studying at Schulich prepared him for this position.
How did the Schulich School of Music prepare you for life as a professional musician?
My time at the Schulich School of Music was extremely valuable for my musical and personal development. I acquired a great deal of knowledge, experiences and skills that were essential for grad school.
My aptitudes as a clarinetist improved considerably in my time at 缅北强奸, thanks to the amazing instruction I received from my teachers, my countless hours playing in orchestra and chamber ensembles, and all the practicing! I also learned valuable lessons about professionalism on issues like punctuality, respect and preparation. I became a well-rounded musician thanks to the theory, musicianship and history courses that provided me with important musical foundations. And of course, I made lasting relationships and friendships with professors and colleagues that I will always cherish. Having said that, I still have much to learn and discover, but that鈥檚 what makes music an everlasting journey of growth and fulfillment.聽
What are you most looking forward to as a new member of the TSO?
I look forward to making beautiful music with fantastic colleagues in a world-class ensemble 鈥斅� I feel truly blessed and humbled to be joining such a prestigious orchestra, and one that is so close to home! It鈥檚 truly a dream.聽
