We are pleased to announce that the听three finalists听chosen to compete for the 2020-2021听Golden听Violin听Award听are听violinists听Russell Iceberg,听Alicia Choi, and听Astrid Nakamura. These string players听were听selected听from听a stellar听semi-final round held on听Saturday听May 15, 2021听at Pollack Hall.听听

For the final,听candidates will present a program of 40 minutes of music of their choice, excluding repertoire presented at the听semi-final round.听The jury for听both the听semi-final and听final round听is听comprised听of听Schulich School of Music faculty members听Assistant Professor of Cello听Elizabeth Dolin,听Associate Professor of听Violin听Violaine听Melan莽on,听Associate Professor of Viola and General听Artistic听Director of MISQA,听Andr茅 Roy听along with听invited guests听Marianne Dugal,听2nd associate听and听concertmaster听of the OSM听as well as violin professor at the Conservatoire de musique de Montreal听and听Anne Robert, founding member of Trio Hochelaga and听violin professor听at听the听Conservatoire de musique de Montr茅al听and the Faculty听of Music听at听the听Universit茅 de Montr茅al. The jury听is听chaired by Dr.听Douglas听McNabney,听Associate Dean听of听Academic and Student Affairs听at the Schulich School of Music.听

The winner receives a generous scholarship, valued this year at $30,000, as well as a smaller likeness of the violin in the form of a 14-karat gold lapel pin. In addition, the winner will perform in the upcoming Schulich concert season.听

The Golden Violin Award was established in 2006 by businessman and philanthropist Seymour Schulich, a year after he donated $20 million to 缅北强奸鈥檚 Schulich School of Music. Made of pewter and gold plate, the Golden Violin remains on permanent display in 缅北强奸鈥檚 Marvin Duchow Music Library.听
