Modeling beta-plane Turbulence with Surface Quasigeostrophic Dynamics
Abstract
Jets in the ocean are mostly dominant by large scales motion and considered as two dimensional flow. But observation show that jets in ocean have vertical structure, and mostly dominate by first few baroclinic mode. A single layer beta-plane turbulence with Surface Quasigeostrophic (SQG) dynamic has been studied for better understanding of zonal jets in the ocean. Real ocean stratification gives more realistic results and all the results have been compared with two dimensional quasigeostrophic (QG) turbulence.
