International Cooperation Failures in the Face of the COVID-19 Pandemic: Learning from Past Efforts to Address Common Threats | American Academy of Arts & Sciences

April 2022 |聽The American Academy of Art and Sciences' project on Rethinking the Humanitarian Health Response to Violent Conflict has just released International Cooperation Failures in the Face of the COVID-19 Pandemic: Learning from Past Efforts to Address Common Threats. In this paper, project co-chair and Max Bell School professor Jennifer Welsh identifies what we can learn from relevant international efforts to cooperate against threats from climate change and nuclear weapons, and how we can apply these lessons to better prepare for and respond to pandemics. Her findings鈥攆rom a combination of broad research and deep consultations with experts鈥攇enerate useful recommendations in advance of high-level diplomatic discussions on potential changes to how the world meets these collective challenges.
