From spacetime quanta to quantum spacetime
ABSTRACT /听搁脡厂鲍惭脡
General relativity taught us that space time is dynamical and quantum theory posits that dynamical objects are quantum. Hence the Newtonian notion of space time as a passive stage where physics takes place needs to be replaced by a notion of quantum space time. Using techniques from topological quantum field theory I will explain how to construct quantizations of geometry that lead to a notion of spacetime quanta. We will then address two key questions: Firstly, how a smooth spacetime could emerge from these spacetime quanta, and secondly whether the dynamics imposed on these spacetime quanta can lead to general relativity in the classical limit.
