Robotics, MachineLearning and Big Data for Smart Farming System

Monday, May 27, 2019 10:00to11:30
Raymond Building R2-046, 21111 Lakeshore Road, St Anne de Bellevue, QC, H9X 3V9, CA

Special seminar by Dr. Liujun Li, Senior Research Scientist, HitronTechnologies Inc., USA

How to sustainably feed 9 billion people by 2050 amidst increasing climate variability is one of the greatest challenges facing humanity. Developing new and advanced cultivars with the high yield and better climate resilience provides unprecedented power to address these global challenges. However, key knowledge and technology gaps still limited the maximization of the Genetics by Environment by Management (GxExM) research approach, such as rapid and repeatable measurement of crop phenotypic parameters and how to convert the data and knowledge to site-specific management system and its decision-making. This seminar will address how robotics, machine learning and big data computation could tackle these major bottlenecks in crop breeding and management programs, which are also applicable to the smart animal and plant production systems both in the field and in controlled environments.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dr. Liujun Li is a Senior Research Scientist at Hitron Technologies Inc. and PI of DoD robotics and deep learning project. He also had been worked at Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Georgia, Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering and National Center for Supercomputing Applications(NCSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA as a postdoc. His research interest is advanced sensor and robotic system technologies and its associated data computation for plant high-throughput phenotyping (HTP) and crop/animal site-specific management decision- making.
