PhD Oral Defense: Leveraging geospatial data to improve land characterization for resource management
PhD Oral Defense of Hsin-Hui Huang, Department of Bioresource Engineering
Increased accessibility to multi-sources geospatial data has provided a unique opportunity to characterize landscapes with greater spatial details. Understanding field heterogeneity allows resource (e.g., fertilizers, irrigation water, etc.) to be accurately controlled so that wastage is minimized and profit is maximized. How to efficiently interpret “big soil data” and add value to the retrieved information are critical topics in precision farming! The overall goal of this dissertation was to evaluate current soil mapping methods using grid-based sampling and proximal soil sensing (PSS) and to develop optimization and economic strategies to support precision farming applications.
