PhD Oral Defense: Effect of different extraction methods, environmental and post-harvest factors on yield of phenolic compounds from blueberry leaves

Blueberry is one of the most popular fruits in North America, highly rich in beneficial phenolic compounds, mainly anthocyanins. Along with the refreshing and remarkable taste, these are also popular for their antioxidant activity and other beneficial health effects, which are generally attributed to their phenolic content. In the past few decades, many studies have also reported the beneficial effects of blueberry leaves. However, there has been a significant gap in the research to draw any conclusive results about the usefulness of this biomaterial. Nevertheless, recently research on post-harvest uses of blueberry leaves has increased. Based on these observations the current research project was formulated to explore the extraction from blueberry leaves and to analyse the various factors affecting the concentration of compounds of interest in blueberry leaves extracts.
