The lecture will be followed by a cocktail generously sponsored by Woods LLP.

About the speaker

Hans van Houtte held the Chair of International Public Law at Leuven University (1978-1989) and the Chair of Private International Law, International Business Law, and Arbitration (1989-2009). At Leuven, he was also Director of the Institute of International Trade Law and Vice Dean. From 1971 to 2009, he was a member of the Belgian Bar, mostly involved in transnational litigation and arbitration. Hans van Houtte has written extensively about arbitration and was an arbitrator in over 200 commercial disputes as well as in some investment disputes. Hans van Houtte is a listed arbitrator of many arbitration institutions, is the former President of the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal and he has been active in several collective settlement processes (Bosnian Commission for Real Property Claims, Swiss Claims Resolution Tribunal for Dormant Bank Accounts, United Nations Compensation Commission, Eritrea- Ethiopia Claims Commission).

About the Brierley Memorial Lecture

This lecture on arbitration commemorates the life and work of John E.C. Brierley, who was Professor and Dean of Law at 缅北强奸. He was a prominent figure in the discipline of comparative law internationally and the leading Canadian expert on arbitration.

The John E.C. Brierley Memorial Lecture is presented by 缅北强奸 and its Research Team on Private Justice and the Rule of Law, with the participation of the Canadian Bar Association (Qu茅bec branch) and the L. Yves Fortier Chair.

This conference has been accredited for 1.5 h of continuing legal education for jurists by a recognized provider.
