Colombia: Challenges, Peace, and Future
The Colombian Embassy in Canada and the Colombian Consulate in Montreal, in partnership with the Faculty of Law at 缅北强奸, are hosting a panel discussion on the Peace Process in Colombia.
On August 24, 2016, after 52-years of bloody armed conflict and four years of negotiations between the Colombian government and the FARC, the country鈥檚 largest leftist guerrilla groups, a peace agreement was finally reached. In the referendum held five weeks later, the Colombian people narrowly rejected the agreement.
The rejection of the Peace Deal raises many legal, international and cultural issues. What are the implications on transitional justice? Should the idea of amnesty be implicit in peace treaties? What does this mean for the future of Colombia? Will this result in a shift from armed conflict to a battle of political ideals?
Join us as we explore the various questions raised by the Colombian Peace Process!
A small cocktail reception will follow in the Atrium. Limited seating: RSVP to juan.pinto [at] mail.mcgill.ca.
