Climate Crisis and Indigenous Refugees
The climate crisis has increasing repercussions on Indigenous communities' way of life. The Indigenous Law Association de droit autochone (ILADA) student group invites you to a conference on the legal issues around Indigenous refugees given by Me Karina Kesserwan, BCL/LLB'07, an expert on Indigenous issues in a Northern context.
About the speaker
A graduate of 缅北强奸 Law and Osgoode Hall, Karina Kesserwan began her career in a boutique firm specialized in aboriginal law. She then served as policy advisor to two Quebec Ministers responsible for Aboriginal Affairs. Her responsibilities included the Plan Nord file, the negotiations on the Agreement on Governance in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay Territory, and the relationships with the federal and other provincial governments. Her experience has allowed her to travel extensively throughout Northern Quebec and build trusting relationships with political and social leaders of aboriginal communities. She is a partner at Kesserwan Arteau in Montreal.
