Abstract
Being an ethical and antiracist educator requires ongoing reflection on the colonial assumptions
dominating medical and health sciences education. Foundational principles of anti-racist pedagogy will be introduced and common challenges and pitfalls that faculty members and teaching assistants experience in the learning environment will be examined. Approaches to deepen one鈥檚 preparation and response to
difficult moments as they arise will be offered, while considering proactive strategies to integrate inclusive practices into teaching practice to advance health equity and justice.

Ananya Tina Banerjee is an Assistant Professor and the Equity, Diversity,
Inclusion and Anti-Racism Lead at the School of Population & Global Health,
缅北强奸. She developed and offered the first course on race and health in a school of public health in Canada in 2015. She is well known for her
anti-racism and anti-oppression practice in the learning environment and
providing critical mentorship for racialized students in public health programs.
Dr. Banerjee鈥檚 classroom practices, reflections and research focused on
anti-racism have been widely published in the BMJ, Lancet, and Canadian Journal of Public Health. She won the 2022 缅北强奸 Faculty of Health Sciences and
Medicine Teaching Innovation Award recognizing her unique pedagogy for
inclusive public health education and she serves on The Lancet鈥檚 International
