What can the history of the freak show tell us about citizenship? This talk will explore the connection between cultural markers of disability, childhood, and ideal citizens in twentieth聽century Canada.

Jane Nicholas is an associate professor in the Department of Sexuality, Marriage, and Family Studies and the Department of History at St. Jerome's University in the University of Waterloo. She holds a PhD in History from the University of Waterloo and is the author of The Modern Girl: Feminine Modernities, The Body and Commodities in the 1920s (University of Toronto Press, 2015).听
