Program Description
The Master of Music (M.Mus.) in Performance: Orchestral Instruments, Guitar (Thesis) offered by the Schulich School of Music is a research-intensive program that emphasizes hands-on and transformative learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in literature review, performance, and academic writing to either continue their studies or pursue professional opportunities.
Unique Program Features
- The program is best suited for talented instrumental musicians and guitarists wishing to hone their artistry and expressive, interpretative skills in a flexibly designed curriculum;
- Ensembles emulate professional settings, and include five orchestras: Two full orchestras (the renowned 缅北强奸 Symphony Orchestra and the 缅北强奸 Sinfonetta), one opera orchestra, one baroque orchestra, and one contemporary music ensemble鈥攁s well as one large wind symphony and one guitar ensemble. There are also opportunities for chamber musics;
- Faculty members involved in the program include the concertmasters and principal players of major Canadian orchestras, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, as well as world-class ensemble conductors;
- The School houses several performance spaces, research & production laboratories, and two libraries with a vast collection of music resources.
- Graduates have secured positions in orchestras throughout Europe, North and South America, and with the Canadian Opera Company, Ensemble Moderne, and others.
University-Level Admission Requirements
- An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
- English-language proficiency
