Law (LL.M. Non-Thesis)

Program Description

The Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Law (Non-Thesis) offered by the Faculty of Law is a course-based program that emphasizes tailored and interdisciplinary learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in intellectual independence, cutting-edge thinking, and information synthesis to pursue professional opportunities (or potentially continue their studies).

In addition to the regular program, students may pursue one of the following options:

Air and Space Law option: offered through the Institute of Air and Space law, this option provides students the opportunity to explore topics in aviation, air and space law, government regulations, conventions and treaties dealing with these areas

Comparative Law option: offered through the Institute of Comparative Law, this option is geared toward students who wish to explore advanced courses in law and/or who wish to better learn about North American legal culture. Note: Availability of this program is subject to relevant courses being offered in a given year.

Environment option: offered in collaboration with the Bieler School of Environment, this option considers how various dimensions (scientific, social, legal, ethical) interact to define environment and sustainability issues.

Unique Program Features

  • The program complements previous legal education through specialized graduate-level coursework and in-depth research. Students develop expertise in selected areas of legal scholarship and provides the opportunity to write a supervised, substantial, and publishable paper in an area of interest;
  • Faculty members are experts in both the civil and common law traditions, with many emphasizing a comparative or trans-systemic approach, and Indigenous perspectives;

  • The Institute of Air and Space Law is among the most prestigious in the world. Graduates pursue post-graduation job opportunities in various prestigious institutions (e.g., United Nations, the US White House, ICAO, IATA, INTELSAT, NOAA, CSA, ESA, JAXA, European Commission, Armed Forces of various nations, world鈥檚 leading law firms).

University-Level Admission Requirements

  • An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
  • English-language proficiency
