Program Description
The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Hispanic Studies offered by the Department of Languages, Literatures, Cultures in the Faculty of Arts is a research-intensive program that emphasizes stimulating and analytical learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in original thinking, literature review, and intellectual curiosity to pursue professional opportunities in academia or industry.

Unique Program Features
- The Department is committed to the disciplined study of all aspects of the literature, intellectual history, and culture of Spain and Latin America, as well as the Spanish language;
- There are two outstanding research areas related to the program. The first being Colonial and Peninsular Baroque and Enlightenment, and the second being Film and Literary Studies in contemporary Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula;
- Students benefit from access to an outstanding Media Resource Centre which has a 300 title collection of films and music from Latin America and Spain, with media in Spanish, Portuguese, and English;
- Graduates often pursue their careers in teaching Hispanic Studies and related fields in universities and CEGEPs. Some graduates pursue careers in the public or private sectors.
