Originally from an organic crop farm, Vinet was motivated to learn from the Dewavrins who farm over 600 ha organically, and who also own a mill that transforms their own flour for human consumption. Kaiser was able to begin work at Ferme aux Pleines Saveurs in Saint-André-Avellin, QC, in the Outaouais region. Ferme aux Pleines Saveurs is an organic vegetable and fruit farm on about 55 acres of land, and is owned by Chantale Vaillancourt and Martin Turcot (BSc.Agr’94), who met when they were studying at Macdonald Campus. The owners are Jean Bissonnette and Elyse Gendron. They milk between 65 and 70 Holsteins with a milking robot in a tie-stall barn, with 100 kg of quota, and have some cash crop production. Four of the six are young women. This article will describe some of their experiences working away from home and how they have personally developed over the past few months.
