Congratulations to all our graduates from the Department of Family Medicine, many of whom were able to celebrate in person during November 20’s convocation ceremony at Place des Arts. Here, we meet a few of them and hear about what they loved about studying at Ã山ǿ¼é, what they’ll remember about their time here – and what’s in store for them after graduation.

Amanda Yee

Hometown: Calgary, Alberta

What I enjoyed the most about studying at the Department of Family Medicine: is the experience of engaging with students from around the world, learning diverse research methodologies, and immersing myself in the cultural richness that Montreal has to offer.

A (proud/scary/wonderful) moment I’ll never forget: Completing my MSc thesis.

What’s next? I am currently pursuing a PhD in the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Toronto.

Sydney Timmermans

Hometown: Stratford, Ontario

What I enjoyed the most about studying at the Department of Family Medicine: is the close-knit community of the department. I always felt supported. Fam med is truly family!

A (proud/scary/wonderful) moment I’ll never forget: The class trip that FMED 506 took to Kahnawake with Professor Alex McComber.

What’s next? I am currently in my first year of medicine at the Schulich program at Western University! Very interested in pursuing a career in family medicine from the clinical side, while still engaging in primary care research.

Bluma Blake Kleiner

Hometown: New City, NY

What I enjoyed the most about studying at the Department of Family Medicine: are the opportunities to connect with other researchers in the field of HIV and STBBI prevention for sexual and gender minority populations across Canada and around the world. I also enjoyed connecting with peers with diverse and interesting research foci!

A (proud/scary/wonderful) moment I’ll never forget: Presenting the results of my scoping review at the International Anal Neoplasia Society’s Annual Meeting in Puerto Rico!

What’s next? Maybe a MD, maybe a PhD, maybe both - stay tuned to find out!

Victoria Wicks

Hometown: Stouffville, Ontario

What I enjoyed the most about studying at the Department of Family Medicine: is learning from and working with exceptional students and professors, and study sessions in the department with friends!

A (proud/scary/wonderful) moment I’ll never forget: Presenting at St. Mary’s Research Center scientific series.

What’s next? I am now working with a research team at a primary care clinic in Montreal.
